Director Q & A

Q & A with the Executive Director –Kimberley Thomas

Why Boys & Girls Club?

For me, it’s personal. I’ve seen firsthand what happens when young people don’t have access to guidance, support, or a safe space to just be kids. The Boys & Girls Club creates that space. It’s more than after-school care; it’s a second home, a place where kids are seen, heard, and supported.      I wanted to be part of that mission. I wanted to show up for kids the way someone once showed up for me or, in some cases, the way I wish someone had. The Boys & Girls Club allows me to do that every single day.

Who Influenced Me?

The person who has influenced me the most is my mother. She is the definition of strength, grace, and unconditional love. Watching her navigate life’s challenges with dignity and determination taught me what resilience truly looks like. She didn’t just tell me to work hard, she showed me. Whether it was working multiple jobs, staying up late to help with homework, or offering a listening ear even when she was exhausted, she always showed up. Her ability to balance being supportive, honest, and firm helped shape me into the person I am today. My mom taught me how to treat people with kindness, stand up for what’s right, and believe in myself even when things get tough. Her influence isn’t just in the lessons she gave me it’s in the way I live, lead, and love every single day.

Advice for our Youth?

Respect yourself enough to walk away from what doesn’t serve you.  Ask questions because curiosity is how you grow.
Own your mistakes not with shame, but with the strength to learn from them.

Our Impact in the Community?

We are more than a place; we are a movement rooted in opportunity, connection, and growth. Our impact lives in every young person who walks through our doors and feels safe, supported, and empowered to be themselves. We create a space where youth can explore their potential, build lasting relationships, and grow into confident leaders. We’re here to be a haven, a consistent, caring presence in the lives of our members. Through mentorship, meaningful programs, and a culture of belonging, we help young people discover their strengths, connect with others, and build a foundation for a brighter future. Together, we grow. Together, we lead. Together, we rise.

What Makes Our Club Special?

At Grant Boys & Girls Club, we’re more than an after-school program; we’re a family. What makes us special is the way we show up every day: with purpose, with passion, and with a deep commitment to our kids. We provide a safe space where youth are seen, supported, and encouraged to be their full, authentic selves. Our staff go the extra mile to build meaningful relationships, meet kids where they are, and walk alongside them as they grow academically, socially, and emotionally. Here, every child matters. Every voice is heard. And every day is a new opportunity to learn, to lead, and to belong. We don’t just talk about impact, we live it, one moment, one member, one breakthrough at a time. That’s what makes the Grant Club not just special, but unforgettable.
