2024 Spring Break at Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta
April 26, 2024 BGCMA

While much of Metro Atlanta took a break from routine April 1-5, Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta (BGCMA) remained open, providing a hub of excitement and enrichment for kids & teens during spring break.

SPRING BREAK COLLEGE TOUR

The week was a celebration of making memories, building friendships, and experiencing endless fun. The highlight reel included a Spring Break College Tour that took participants to Georgia Tech, the University of West Georgia, and the University of Alabama A&M. This educational journey aimed to inspire young minds about future possibilities in higher education.

DANCE WORKSHOP

One of the standout events of the week was a master dance workshop led by Ashley Collins, owner of Flash Movementz dance studio in Birmingham. Collins, known for her performances with R&B star Tamar Braxton, shared her expertise with a hundred young people from A. Worley Brown, Lawrenceville, Anderson, and Matthews Clubs. The workshop not only showcased talent but also fostered a love for dance and self-expression. We are grateful to Georgia Council for the Arts for their support of this workshop.

KNOTLESS BRAID/ COSMETOLOGY PROGRAM

The creativity continued with a Knotless Braid/Cosmetology Program, led by Youth Development Director Danielle Perry, at the East and South Cluster Clubs. Members from grades 1st to 12th delved into the art of braiding, learning essential skills like hair washing, blow-drying, parting, and box layering. Some even ventured into braiding with extensions, honing their craft under expert guidance.

ALL STARS DAY

Sports enthusiasts found their place at the All Stars event, a play day organized by Boys & Girls Clubs of America and hosted at BGCMA’s Warren Club. Sponsored by Inspire Brands, this gathering brought together middle and high school teens from various Clubs for a day of friendly competition and camaraderie.

SPRING BREAK OUT AT CAMP KIWANIS

Amidst all this excitement, Camp Kiwanis became a hotspot for adventure during its Spring Break Out. Teens from A. Worley Brown and Barksdale Clubs enjoyed an immersive outdoor experience, courtesy of Camp K’s dedicated staff. Activities ranged from archery and trail exploration to wildlife encounters and traditional campfire cooking, complete with everyone’s favorite treat – s’mores.
