U-n-i-q-u-e. After Anderson Boys & Girls Club’s Victor C. correctly spelled “unique” at Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta (BGCMA)’s 2nd Annual Spelling Bee on March 25, he was named the Spelling Bee champion! (Read about the inaugural Spelling Bee here.)
Held Friday, Mar. 24 at John H. Harland Boys & Girls Club, 20 Clubs were represented during the spelling bee. Club chaperones, family members, and staff were present in the Club and online to cheer on and encourage participants.
This fun and competitive event is brought to our youth and community through BGCMA’s Expanded Learning Program.
“The Spelling Bee provides a valuable educational experience for youth and allows them to engage in healthy competition,” said Director of Expanded Learning Ruth Wilcox, “Research shows that encouraging youth to enter a Spelling Bee competition has several developmental benefits, like grammar, vocabulary enhancement, improving cognitive skills, growing their confidence and honor their competitive spirit.”
Congratulations to our Spelling Bee Champion Victor from Anderson Club. Runner-up was Dorian from Warren Club, with third place Cameron from Matthews Club.
Anderson Club executive Director N’keschia Brundidge-Clark, Anderson Club staff, and all Club members have earned bragging rights for winning BGCMA’s 2nd Spelling Bee and will proudly display BGCMA’s Spelling Bee plaque in their Club for one year.
Thank you to Ruth Wilcox and all Club staff who went the extra mile to ensure Club kids were prepared for the Bee!
