On March 5, the Flint River Community Center Boys & Girls Club celebrated its one-year anniversary, and Comcast recognized this milestone in a major way!
At the anniversary bash, the cable and high-speed internet provider gifted laptops to families in need. It’s all part of Comcast’s commitment to bridging the digital divide and advancing future workforce readiness by expanding broadband access and connectivity in Georgia’s diverse communities. To this effort, Comcast launched Lift Zones across Metro Atlanta in community centers like Flint River to facilitate digital literacy and academic achievement.
Located on a 21-acre site on Flint River Road in Riverdale, the Flint River Community Center is a collaborative project between the Department of Senior Services and Parks and Recreation. In addition to housing our Flint River Boys & Girls Club, the center provides recreation and activities for multiple generations via community game rooms, exercise rooms, a multipurpose gym, and an outdoor splash pad. The center also has a black box theater designed for live performances with flexible staging and seating.
In just one short year, our Flint River Community Center Club has accomplished so much. Executive Director Amelia Davis and her staff have done a tremendous job recruiting kids & teens–so much so that there’s a waiting list to join! In addition, as one of 15 candidates nominated to participate in the Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta (BGCMA) 2021 Youth of the Year leadership development program, Elias D. became the first ever to represent his newly established Club. He certainly did not disappoint.
On Nov. 12, Elias was named 2021 Youth of the Year runner up. This prestigious accomplishment is awarded to the candidate who demonstrates exemplary academic achievement, leadership skills, and service to the community. On Dec. 7, Clayton County leadership celebrated his achievement with an official proclamation.
