DANCE WORKSHOP
Jamal Josef

On March 30 at our John H. Harland Club, members from across Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta (BGCMA) participated in “Rhythm and Dance,” a 90-minute master class with celebrity choreographer Jamal Josef (whose credits include Beyonce’s Coachella).

“The Arts & Innovation workshops are designed to connect our BGCMA members to industry professionals to inspire, develop, and expose to them to the many possibilities available within the arts community,” said Ruben Royster, BGCMA regional director of studios & production. “Our one-day dance workshop is designed to allow our members and partners to experience dance as not just a hobby but in practicality as a viable career. Through mentorship, skill development, and hands-on practice, we were able to serve about 50 members org-wide in a workshop that included dance practicum by an industry professional, a Q&A portion, as well as a freestyle dance battle.”

Special thanks to John Strong and the Harland Club staff for hosting, Terri Fishback and Nikki McClain for showing support & chair dancing; Charlese Malcolm and LaDasia Ware for administrative assistance; and all participating Club members and staff.

The Arts & Innovation Workshop series is part of BGCMA’s yearlong wholistic arts & innovation strategy for kids & teens across BGCMA. To partner with BGCMA in the area of arts & innovation, please contact Ruben Royster at Rroyster@bgcma.org. BGCMA staff can also join Royster for a “Deeper Dive” virtual session on April 20, where he will highlight the arts & innovation framework in more detail.
