Fear Was Not a Factor at the BGCMA Back-to-School Kickoff
It’s been nearly two months since many metro Atlanta youth returned back to school from summer break—also marking a return back to the Clubs for after-school programming.
On Aug. 26, The Boys & Girls Club of Metro Atlanta (BGCMA) welcomed members back to after-school programming with a fun-filled back-to-school kick off. The socially distanced event took place outside on the large back field of the Joseph B. Whitehead Boys & Girls Club.
Incorporating a Fear Factor theme, staff prepared gutsy outdoor activities that mirrored what one might expect to see on the competition reality series. Brave members were challenged to taste “cat food,” which was really canned tuna, and “roaches,” which were really dates stuffed with cream cheese. There was also a Bean Boozled Challenge with jelly beans.
The day wrapped with an exciting game of kickball and a cool down with Italian ice and a plethora of tasty treats, including chips and popcorn. Fear Factor is the perfect theme to celebrate Club kids & teens’ resiliency during COVID-19. Their lives and education have been disrupted by an ongoing pandemic, yet they continue to show up despite fearing the unknown.
