On Dec. 14, Douglas County Boys & Girls Club received a Papa Johns pizza party and $7,500 in grants thanks to two members’ artistic talents.
Papa Johns invited Boys & Girls Club members in Metro Atlanta, Kentuckiana, or Newark to submit original artwork for the chance to win grants for their Clubs.
Participants were asked to create an original piece of artwork in response to the artwork prompt: “At Papa Johns, we love pizza. It brings us all together. The world deserves better pizza, and we deliver it. We also believe in delivering better futures for the communities we serve. That’s why we’ve partnered with Shaquille O’Neal to create the Shaq-A-Roni pizza, where we donate $1 from every pizza sold to the Papa Johns Foundation, which supports community organizations like Boys & Girls Clubs of America. Create an original work of art depicting how pizza brings people from different backgrounds together at your Club or in your community.”
The Douglas County Club took home first and second place honors.
First place went to Tailla E., who received a $100 Papa Johns gift card, a framed version of her submission above signed by Shaquille O’Neal, and $5,000 grant to her Club. BGCA also gifted Tailla with a mixed media art kit.
“I really enjoy art and fashion, so I’m interested in maybe becoming an architect or a fashion designer,” said Tailla, who is self-taught.
Second place went to E’Maya N., who will receive a $50 Papa Johns gift card, a framed art submission, and a $2,500 grant to the Douglas County Club.
