Camp Amp’ed 2022 (Feb. 18-20) was nothing short of spectacular! In just two days, teens across our 26 Metro Atlanta Clubs pulled their artistic talents together to create “Innovation Without Limits,” a showcase of music, visual art & performance at Camp Kiwanis.
Hosted annually at our 160-acre residential Camp Kiwanis in Danielsville, Camp AMP’ed stands for art, music, and performance education and is a weekend trip to the cabins to let creativity run loose! Club teens got the opportunity to share, improve, and then showcase their artistic abilities all while learning new skills and meeting new people.
CAMP AMP’ed creates spaces just as creative as the Club members its serves. This space gives campers the courage to perform in front of their peers and take creative risks. The space sets the mood for campers to create new sounds, invite people they do not know to be a character in their script, and be celebrated by both Campers and staff.
Campers got the chance to write their own music and then play an active role in recording it. At Camp AMP’ed was a makeshift, professional studio where aspiring musicians got the chance to rap and sing their songs into the mic and have it produced to an audio file. “Destined for Greatness” is a song created by Camp Ampers! Listen here.
The weekend concluded with a showcase of campers’ pieces made and finished during their weekend stay at Camp Kiwanis.
Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta President & CEO David Jernigan was in attendance and says he was moved by the powerful performances.
“I was blown away by the talent of our teens and their ability to pull together an entertaining show in just two short days,” Jernigan said. “More importantly, I was even more impressed by the sense of community our Camp AMP’ed staff helped to create in just a weekend. I loved seeing our teens from across Metro Atlanta supporting one another, cheering each other on as they got awards, and genuinely enjoying a positive weekend focused on the arts.”
