Important Notice: Incident at A. Worley Brown Boys & Girls Club Teen Event
March 2, 2024 BGCMA

Dear Parents/Guardians,

I hope this letter finds you well. We are writing to inform you about an incident that occurred during our teen event at A. Worley Brown Boys & Girls Club on Friday, March 1.

During the event, which hosted nearly 100 teens along with numerous guests, an altercation broke out amongst a group of youth. It appears that some teens attempted to initiate a fight with another teen, leading to chaos and panic among attendees. Amidst the commotion, there were reports of a possible firearm, causing many to flee the scene in fear. Police arrived promptly.

We want to assure you that the safety and well-being of our members and guests are our top priorities. Thankfully, the reported presence of a gun has been thoroughly investigated by law enforcement and deemed unsubstantiated; there is no evidence to suggest a firearm was on the premises.

While incidents like this are rare, we understand the concern it may raise among parents. We want to emphasize that our staff and security measures were in place and acted swiftly to ensure the safety of everyone present. Additionally, we are reviewing our event protocols to identify any areas where improvements can be made to prevent similar occurrences in the future.

We encourage open communication and transparency, so please feel free to reach out to us if you have any questions or concerns regarding this incident. Our team is available to provide support and address any issues you may have.

Thank you for your understanding and continued support of the A. Worley Brown Boys & Girls Club. Together, we remain committed to providing a safe and positive environment for our youth.

Sincerely,

Lawrence Mims
