Summer of Cultural Arts: A Global Journey Through Creative Expression

Summer of Cultural Arts: A Global Journey Through Creative Expression
July 26, 2024 BGCMA

This summer, Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta (BGCMA) embarked on a cultural journey through our Cultural Arts Program. The summer pilot provided enriching cultural education for our members in our central cluster. Participating Clubs included Harland, Whitehead, Warren, At-Promise South, and Draper.

Each Club hosted 12 members in each session this summer. The program featured an 8-module curriculum, with members focusing on four key areas: “Technology and How It Affects the Culture,” “A Taste of the Culture,” “Fashion of the Culture,” and “Music of the Culture.” Each lesson was designed to provide a comprehensive understanding of cultural elements related to specific countries of study.

Sessions were facilitated by BGCMA’s Director of Arts & Innovation Ruben Lamar Royster. Members participated in structured lessons that included setting agreements, community-building activities, instructional activities, presentations of understanding, and a structured time for reflection.

Through these lessons, members achieved a deeper understanding of various countries’ cultural aspects, including food, music, fashion, and technology. They were able to demonstrate their knowledge and insights at the end of each session, showcasing their grasp of the material.
