Dear Parents & Guardians –
I’m writing to let you know that Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta will be moving from our current location at W. W. Woofolk Boys & Girls Club to Tuskegee Airmen Global Academy Elementary School at the end of the summer. Our last day within this building will be Friday, July 20 and our first day at Tuskegee will begin on Monday, August 6.
For nearly 50 years, the City of Atlanta has offered us this site free of charge to serve kids at Woolfolk. We are so grateful for their generous partnership and all they have done to make our experience a great one. Atlanta Public Schools is now embarking on a new school campus that will include the existing footprint of the Club and it’s time for us to move. They have offered Tuskegee as a new space for our partnership to continue.
As we make this transition, we are no longer able to offer transportation from the following schools: Beecher Hills Elementary (which is moving locations) and KIPP WAYS. Your children are still welcome to attend the Club, but you will need to arrange alternate transportation. We will continue to serve KIPP Strive, as well as all other current schools on our transportation route.
For all members, I’m happy to report you should see no gap in care. We will be able to serve all ages at the new location. You will also see the same faces when you walk through our doors. We are proud of the staff that have served here at Woolfolk and we are transitioning all of them to the new site. Our hours will shift slightly with doors closing at 7pm vs. 8pm.
We’ve really enjoyed getting to know your kids and the community over the years and we hope you will continue your journey with us. We realize that over the past couple of years, many families like yours have seen lots of transition. We apologize about any stress or inconvenience this has caused.
As we work on building a brand new state-of-the-art facility at our previous Harland location, we’ve had to do considerable juggling to make it work, but we really feel all of these efforts will be worth it, because of the experience we will be able to deliver once our new Club is complete. In the new John H. Harland Boys & Girls Club: Innovation and Expression Studio (T.I.E.S.), our focus will remain the same – helping kids to reach their full potential – but we will use a creative youth development approach driven by arts, innovation, and expression. The building will be ready in the first half of 2019 and, at this point, we will make the final move to this new site. We hope you are as excited as we are to open these doors and begin using the new facility.
Because of all of the transition and your patience, we would like to extend a free membership to you and your families for the 2018/2019 school year. For all current families, when you go to sign up in August, your membership fee will be covered by our organization. If you’d like to sign up at a different Club in the Boys & Girls Club family, you can find a list here – www.bgcma.org/local-clubs/. For those switching locations, you may still get a free membership if you have attended the Club at least 50 times in the past year. We hope this small gesture is a step to show how much we care for you and your kids.
If you have any additional questions about this transition, please feel free to reach out to me at (404) 752-7239 or SReynolds@BGCMA.ORG.
We appreciate you being part of the Boys & Girls Club family and entrusting us with your kids! Each day, we are working to help them get college and career ready, live healthier, and become leaders. We hope it shows in the work they are doing here and the experiences they have.
We wish you the best and hope you have a great summer!
