Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta (BGCMA) is now accepting applications for the 2025 Youth of the Year Mentor Program—a unique opportunity to help shape and support the future of young leaders in our community.
Each year, our Clubs select outstanding teens between the ages of 14 and 18 to represent their local site through the Youth of the Year program. These candidates are first chosen as Youth of the Month, then nominated to compete for the title of Youth of the Year at the Club level. From there, they have the chance to advance to the metro Atlanta competition and potentially to state, regional, and national stages—earning scholarships, recognition, and leadership experience along the way.
What Mentors Do
Mentors are matched with a single Youth of the Year candidate and work with them throughout the program season. These candidates are preparing for high-level interviews, public speaking events, and personal storytelling moments. Your role is to offer guidance, accountability, and support across key areas including:
- Public speaking development
- Interview coaching
- Personal essay and speech writing
Mentors will participate in both group workshops and one-on-one sessions, making this a hands-on way to invest in the next generation of leaders.
Key Dates
- Mentor Application Deadline: Tuesday, July 15, 2025
- Mentor Orientation (Virtual): Thursday, August 21, 2025 (Required)
- Workshop & Mentorship Period: August 26 to October 18, 2025
- Youth of the Year Gala: Friday, November 7, 2025
All dates are tentative and subject to change. A full calendar of workshops and sessions will be provided after enrollment.
Why It Matters
Mentorship is one of the most impactful ways to support teens preparing for life beyond the Club. Many Youth of the Year candidates go on to receive college scholarships, media opportunities, and civic recognition. The relationships built through this program often last well beyond the competition, offering both teens and mentors a meaningful connection rooted in growth, purpose, and service.
