Meet Seaborne: Youth of the Year for Lawrenceville Boys & Girls Club
October 7, 2022 BGCMA

Seaborne

1) How long have you been a member of Boys & Girls Club of Metro Atlanta?

I have been going to Boys & Girls Club since first grade.

2) Why is your Boys & Girls Club important to you?

My Boys & Girls Club is important to me because it helped show and teach me things I dint know I was cable of. For example, I would have never thought I would be chosen to be my Club’s youth of the year when I was in fifth grade.

3) What is your career goal? What do you want to do, be when you grow up?

My career goal is to become a pediatrician but also be a travel surgical technician.

4) How has your Club supported your goals for college, post-secondary education, and career?

My Club has supported me with my college goals by some of the staff introducing me to all types of scholarships before I was a senior and giving me insight on what type of colleges best fit me.

5) Who has been a major influence in your life? Why?

Everyone that has spoken or given me a motivational talk in my seventeen years of living. But if I had to choose it would definitely be my mom because of how hard I see her work every day and still be able to put a smile on my face.

6) What is a success you achieved through the support of your Club?

A success I’ve achieved through the Club was being able to keep good eye contact when carrying on a conversation with someone and having great communication skills.

7) What is a challenge that your Club helped you overcome?

Communicating with strangers or other people I’m not very comfortable with.

8) Do you volunteer in your community or at the Club? Can you share a few examples of this?

Yes, I’ve run bake sales at my Club, participated in many can food drives at my Club and school, donated clothes, and more.

9) Why do you believe it is important for teens to use their voice in today’s society?

It is important for teens to use their voices in society today because we are the next adults in our generation and if a young youth is speaking amongst other young youth they are most likely to listen because it can relate to them.

10) What are you doing, what can you do to spark positive change in today’s society?

Something positive in my society that I plan on continuing to do is to motivate all the teens around the world not just at BGCMA’s to know that you have a voice and that whatever you say matters.

11) What moment or moments in your Club do you believe have shaped you to serve as your Club’s Youth of the Year

My leadership skills in programs at my Club and my participation when guest speakers are at my Club.
