Congratulations are in order for Camp Kiwanis’ newly named Leaders in Nature’s Kingdom (L.I.N.K.) members! The new Facilitators in Training (F.I.T.) and Link Learning in the Environment (L.I.T.E.) members went through a journey of two rounds, where they were tested on their leadership abilities and challenged to put their outdoor insights and skills to the test.

The new F.I.T. members: Quen’Darrien H. (Grant), Ahmir S. (Barksdale), Nathan B. (Grant), Pierce M. (Warren), Zakkiyah H. (Grant), Kimberly M. (Matthews), and Kalianna A. (Matthews).

The new Link L.I.T.E. members: Kourtlen C. (Grant) and Myles R. (Paulding).

Qualities like leadership, adaptability, safety consciousness, creativity, and enthusiasm can be found in each new L.I.N.K. Club teens had to journey through two rounds to be voted a F.I.T. and Link L.I.T.E. member. These leaders become role models at Camp Kiwanis, teaching kayaking, fostering relationships, and guiding kids their night hikes.

Round One

On Sept. 18, current L.I.N.K. members and alumni took a night hike up Stone Mountain then had a lock at the Chamblee Club in preparation to host potential members. That following Saturday, 16 potential members excitedly entered ready to begin their journey to become a F.I.T. or Link L.I.T.E. Round one, included current L.I.N.K. members and alumni guiding hopefuls through completing job applications, refining their presentation skills, and improving their teamwork abilities.  After the workshop, current L.I.N.K.s and alumni interview the potentials. Twelve were chosen to advance to the next round.

“It was such a great day at Chamblee and some very challenging decisions had to be made,” said Camp Kiwanis Director Carly Robinson at the conclusion of round one. “I also appreciate the wonderful job the current L.I.N.K. members did in helping reach this decision.”

Round Two

The final round occurred at Play Day at Camp Kiwanis on Oct. 23-24. The 12 chosen from round one led the Camp Day. Here, hopefuls articulated the vision and mission of Camp Kiwanis, led a night hike, and showcases their leadership and teaching skills. At the conclusion of Play Day at Camp K. the potential FIT and Link L.I.T.E. members voted for each other.

What’s Next?

New F.I.T. members will now participate in the yearly program consisting of monthly weekend trips at Camp Kiwanis. Being a F.I.T. also includes a great resume builder because they receive seven weeks of employment during Camp Kiwanis’ resident camping programs.  During the summer at Camp, FITs have an assigned group of young campers where they work, train, and play.

The new Link L.I.T.E. members get volunteer and leadership opportunities. They are invited to L.I.N.K. weekends and events. They are also the go-to people when F.I.T. positions need to be filled.

“Congrats to all these hard-working teens!  I can’t wait to see them bloom and grow!” Robinson said of the newest L.I.N.K. members.

After the journey to become F.I.T. and Link L.I.T.E. members, the Club teens are excited to host you at Camp Kiwanis.  Meet and congratulate the newest F.I.T. and Link L.I.T.E. members at Camp Kiwanis for a Holiday Reunion on Dec. 18-19. There will be family activities, songs, stories, s’mores, a campfire, and, not to mention, the chance to meet L.I.N.K. alumni!

Meet the New L.I.N.K. Members!
