Meet this month’s Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta (BGCMA) work besties: Human Resources Senior Vice President Margo Marks and former BGCMA Chief Operating Officer Claire Guitton!
Marks has led the Human Resources Department for four and a half years. Guitton retired in 2021 after 32 years with BGCMA and recently rejoined the Movement on a part-time capacity, serving as the interim lead of our Programs & Operations team.
The besties met during Marks’ final interview, citing that as the start of their friendship.
“It’s so nice to have someone to confide in,” said Marks when asked what it is like working with a bestie.
Marks’ favorite moment happened in the Support Center, which was also a fashion faux pas (see picture to the right). Marks noticed that Guitton was at work, wearing two different shoes. “It had been a tough day,” said Marks, “but realizing this made us both laugh a ton.”
In their four and half years of friendship, outside of work, they love hiking, eating out (mostly Lee’s Bakery), and sending each other funny texts.
Guitton describes their friendship has “The good times are twice as good and the bad times are half as bad. We have had a lot of laughs.”
Marks and Guitton both agree that most of their laughs center around their fashion fails. Both of their favorite work bestie moments (so far) center on a fashion faux pas.
Guitton’s favorite moment happened during a Senior Leader Team meeting at Camp Kiwanis. While Marks and Guitton sat fireside roasting marshmallows and laughing, Guitton noticed Marks’ skirt had words to the Canadian national anthem. “I just laughed because I thought the skirt was for fall with large maple leaves on it,” said Marks. They continue the laughs with the occasional Canadian themed gift exchange (see picture to the left).
