Why is your Boys & Girls Club important to you? “My Boys & Girls Club is important to me because it has allowed me to be myself and become who I want to be, no matter what.”
How does it feel to represent your Club as Youth of the Year? What does it mean to you? I feel happy because I’ve wanted to do this for a long time. To me, it means I have the opportunity to be open, share my story, and help future seniors and juniors with what they need.
Meet Lou: Lou is a 16-year-old junior at Mundys Mill High School and an 11-year member of Boys & Girls Clubs, currently attending the Flint River Community Center Club. Lou aspires to attend Tennessee State University, an HBCU, to pursue a career in social work and earn both her associate’s and bachelor’s degrees. She also dreams of starting her own photography business. Lou values her Club as a place where she can be her true self and find support during difficult times, such as coping with her mother’s passing. She aims to make a lasting impact by guiding younger members and helping them grow. To Lou, a legacy means being remembered for her positive influence and character for generations to come.
“My Club always helped me with my homework, getting/keeping my grades up and I really appreciate that so much.”
