Jelani Spain is thrilled to be named Youth of the Year for Camp Kiwanis – for the second year in a row! He’s been a proud member of the Warren Boys & Girls Club since 6th grade. He says joining the Warren Club opened the door to many opportunities like Camp Kiwanis, a year-round residence camp that provides positive, challenging outdoor experiences to youth served by Boys & Girls Clubs. In 8th grade, he volunteered at Camp Kiwanis, and that next summer, he received an opportunity to work on the camp staff. Jelani says over the years, the Warren Club and Camp Kiwanis experiences and supportive staff have helped mold him into the young man and multi-faceted leader that he is today.
One of the programs that has had the greatest impact is CareerBound program, which helped Jelani not only with college prep and resume-building, but also with the
process of selecting a school and his major. Jelani believes in the importance of giving back and always tries to volunteer when he can. Jelani wants to help teens overcome the negativity present in the world today. His desire to be an example and pay forward the opportunities that have been given to him are just a few reasons why he was selected again to represent Camp Kiwanis as their Youth of the Year.
