Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta has been busy! Our teens have been engaged in new, hands-on programs.
UPS Road Code
Our teen Club members are also receiving exposure to safe driving through learning modules and virtual simulated driving experiences. Each day in the United States, approximately eight teenagers are killed and more than 500 are injured in motor vehicle crashes. (CDC).
This experience is provided by the UPS Road Code, a national program designed to teach teens safe-driving techniques. Developed by UPS and the UPS Foundation, the program helps prevent teen injuries and deaths by teaching defensive driving skills through interactive tools developed for their newest generation of drivers. This program is based on the same safety training used with UPS’s own drivers, helping teens learn the code for safe driving. UPS employees serve as trained volunteer instructors for the program.
Over a two to three-week period, our Draper Club and Barksdale Club teens learned driving skills and put their new knowledge into action virtually.
Club Metaverse
Teen members at our Douglas, Grant, Shaquille O’Neal, and Warren Clubs have been busy exploring career options in technology and computer programs through the Club Metaverse! Sponsored by Meta, this virtual program occurred over 10 weeks. Kai XR, experts in the Metaverse, taught Club teens the curriculum. The unique curriculum included in-person and virtual classroom instruction, hands-on applications, and Metaspace creations and presentations.
Upon completion, 75% of our members expressed an increase in interest and knowledge of Metaverse technologies.
Director of College and Career Readiness, Dr. Anna Jones said, “I witnessed the ease and excitement of each member as they engaged in the virtual reality headsets, computer programming, and use of technology programming features. We hope to continue offering more Club Metaverse experiences to more Clubs.”
