On April 15, Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta (BGCMA) hosted our inaugural Full S.T.E.A.M. Ahead LEGO Build Competition at our Center for a New Generation at the Tuskegee Airmen Global Academy (CNG-TAG) Boys & Girls Club.
The LEGO Build Competition “was a great opportunity for our members and Club sites of the Central Cluster grades K-5 to connect and collaborate in science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics (STEAM),” said CNG Executive Director Charlese “Ms. Cece” Malcolm, who organized the event. She says this competition is just the beginning of the Full S.T.E.A.M. Ahead program events she and the Arts & Innovation team are organizing for the near future.
In one month, each team was challenged to construct a LEGO object using a 15,000-piece LEGO kit. Club participants included Harland (Panthers), Draper (Draperkons), Purpose-Built Thomasville (the Avengers), Team Purpose-Built Slater (the Visoneers), and Warren (Warriors).
All Club members whose teams placed first through third earned individual trophies and certificates.
First place went to the Warren Warrior. They earned a trophy for their Club, a team trip to LEGOLAND Atlanta, and individual 2,000-piece LEGO kits. Second place went to the Purpose-Built Slater Visoneers, and they earned well as 400-piece LEGO kits. The Harland Panthers placed third.
A big THANK YOU to Ms. CeCe, Arts & Innovation Director Ruben Royster, co-host Anisa Brenee’, Central Cluster Regional Director Nikki McClain, CNG’s Michelle Denson, and CNG’s Mr. Williams.
