Promoting Inclusivity of Holidays at BGCMA

Promoting Inclusivity of Holidays at BGCMA
October 26, 2023 BGCMA

Dear BGCMA Community,

We hope this letter finds you well. As dedicated staff and members of our organization’s DEI Council, we have had the privilege of witnessing the positive impact we make on the lives of our community’s youth. Today, we’re writing to emphasize the importance of inclusivity when it comes to acknowledging and celebrating holidays within our organization.

In our increasingly diverse world, it is crucial that we create an environment where every member feels valued and respected. One way to achieve this is by recognizing and celebrating the various holidays that our members, families, and staff that we serve observe. Embracing holidays from different cultures and traditions demonstrates our commitment to inclusivity and fosters a sense of belonging for all, which is also one of our foundational youth development strategies.

Here are a few key reasons why inclusivity in holiday celebrations is essential:

  1. Cultural Understanding: Recognizing holidays from various backgrounds helps educate our youth and staff about different cultures, traditions, and beliefs, promoting cultural understanding and tolerance.
  2. Fostering Inclusivity: Celebrating a diverse range of holidays can make everyone feel included, appreciated, and respected, regardless of their cultural or religious background.
  3. Team Building: It provides an opportunity for our staff and the youth to come together, share experiences, and strengthen relationships, ultimately promoting teamwork and cohesion.
  4. Learning Opportunities: Celebrating holidays can be an excellent educational experience, allowing us to learn about the significance and customs associated with each holiday.

By embracing the diversity of holidays within our BGCMA, we can send a powerful message that we value and respect the individuality of the youth we serve and our team members.
