All rise for the honorable members of the Warren and Jesse Draper Boys & Girls Clubs! Well, they’re not quite judges yet, but their unlimited potential was surely ignited at the inaugural Kilpatrick Townsend Law Camp this summer.
During the week of June 21, Club members from both our Warren Club in Atlanta and Jesse Draper Club in College Park participated in a weeklong law camp hosted at the Kilpatrick Townsend & Stockton (KTS), where Boys & Girls Club of Metro Atlanta (BGCMA) Board Chair Charlie Henn is a partner.
Throughout the week, Club members were mentored by KTS attorneys and learned law fundamentals like roles in a courtroom, professional branding, and trial prep. They also sat in on panels that educated them on the history of passing laws like the Voting Rights Act.
“This inaugural Kilpatrick Townsend & Stockton (KTS) Law Camp was a valued opportunity for our BGCMA members from Jesse Draper and Warren Clubs who actively engaged in public speaking, learned about the varied facets of law and the legal system, and had the opportunity to be taught and mentored by KTS Summer Associate Law Interns to participate in a mock trial as a culminating event. I witnessed the members going from anxious to excited over the span of the 4-day camp. This was a life-changing experience for us all,” said Senior Director of College and Career Readiness Dr. Anna Jones.
The week concluded with a very intense mock trial, where members presented their case for the Sketchers Onyx vs. Adidas Stan Smith that was actually tried by the KTS. All participants were knowledgeable and argued their cases well. In the end, everyone was a winner—culminating their week at law camp with an ice cream sundae bar.
