The Capes & Crowns Empowerment Summit was held at our Warren Club on Saturday, October 15. Those in attendance included 56 teen girl members, their caregivers (including Club staff), volunteers from our Champions Club for G.I.R.L.S, and members of our program and resource development teams. The event was an important opportunity to boost and empower our girl Club members and support the adult women in their lives.
Amber Barnes-McElhaney, our Director of Social Emotional Health & Wellness, said, “What inspires me most is when I see women and girls from all backgrounds congregate to uplift and empower one another.”
The day was filled with activities and workshops designed specifically for women and girls. One workshop titled Dove My Hair, My Crown was led by Amber, who shared, “This workshop teaches all women to love their natural “crown” and appreciate their unique differences and beauty.”
LaDasia (Warren Club) and Aukejshia (Anderson Club) led workshops tailored for teen Club members that fostered self-confidence. At the same time, adult caregivers were treated to a workshop hosted by Dr. Briana Woods-Jaeger of Emory University on the importance of self-care.
Overall, this event successfully taught women and girls to lead their lives confidently while practicing wellness. The hope is to make this an annual event.
In addition to those mentioned above, a special thanks to Melody and Whitney from our Resource Development team for their help in bringing this day to life.
