College ready. Work ready. Life ready. That’s the goal for all youth at Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta (BGCMA), and our newly formed College & Career Readiness (CCR) team is making strides to secure college & career partnerships and increase youth engagement in college & career exploration.
A subset of CCR, BGCMA’s workforce readiness programming has long provided teens with free access to ACT/SAT preparation, workshops on resume building and interviewing, and experiences like career exploration tours, college and technical school visits, and paid summer work experiences.
“When we define workforce readiness for our teens, we use our framework of Explore, Develop and Apply, which allows them to thrive in their academic success, career exploration, and summer employment opportunities that cultivate their successful matriculation through high school and post-secondary individualized plans,” said CCR Senior Director Dr. Anna Jones.
In March, the CCR team hosted Career Development Days, which allowed teen members (ages 14-18) to sharpen their workforce readiness skills just in time for summer employment opportunities. Teens engaged in interviews, career feedback, resume presentations, workforce readiness behaviors and career readiness workshops with Gensler, Laz Parking, Old Navy, Publix and Six Flags.
BGCMA relies on the generous support of donors to help sustain such programming.
Our upcoming 2nd Annual “TopGolf Fundraiser: Driving Great Futures” will directly benefit BGCMA’s work to ensure metro Atlanta graduates leave our doors and step out of high school prepared to pursue a sustainable career and achieve the great futures they deserve.
The event takes place April 28, 4:00-7:00 p.m. at TopGolf Atlanta in Midtown. Eager beginners and skilled players are invited for an afternoon of socially distanced tournament style play, including three hours of golf in a private bay, an open bar, dinner buffet, fun contests and the Give for Greatness Silent Auction sponsored by Champions Clubs for GIRLS–BGCMA’s women giving society. Confirmed guests include BGCMA President & CEO David Jernigan, Marlo Hampton from the Real Housewives of Atlanta, Miss Georgia USA 2022 Holly Haynes, Atlanta community leaders, and BGCMA young alumni, who are eager to share their workforce readiness success stories.
“At the Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta, our mission is to ignite the unlimited potential of every young person who walks through our proverbial Blue Doors,” said Jernigan. “Our workforce readiness programming allows the kids and teens across our 25+ Clubs in 11 Metro Atlanta counties to explore their passions, apply their knowledge to real-world work experiences and develop their employability skills—ultimately, empowering them to thrive in life and strengthen the futures of their communities and the world.”
