Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta (BGCMA) held our annual Spelling Bee on Saturday, May 4, at the William M. and Betty E. Small Boys & Girls Club. The event featured 18 youth from Clubs across Metro Atlanta, competing in a challenging contest that promotes literacy and academic excellence among students in grades 5 through 8.
The competition included varying degrees of word difficulty, testing the young spellers’ skills and perseverance. Alexander R. from A.R. Gus Barksdale Boys & Girls Club in Rockdale County claimed first place, securing a new laptop as his prize. Talib A. from Douglas County Boys & Girls Club earned second place and a tablet, and Lola J. from Malon D. Mimms Boys & Girls Club in Cherokee County took third place and received an academic kit. All participants were awarded a breakfast, t-shirt, medal, and gift bag for their hard work and participation.
Participating Clubs included Anderson, At-Promise West, Barksdale, CNG, Douglas, Draper, East-Dekalb, Flint, Grant, Harland, Lawrenceville, Matthews, Mimms, Newnan/Coweta, Purpose Built – Price, Purpose Built – Slater, Warren, and Whitehead.
