Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta (BGCMA) celebrated 50 high school seniors on May 8 at the Riverside EpiCenter in Austell. The event, themed “Reflections of Resilience: A Refined Masterpiece,” honored the achievements and potential of these members as they prepare for the next stages of their lives.
BGCMA awarded $24.5K in scholarships to support the students as they pursue higher education, join the military, or enter the workforce. In addition, BGCMA’s women giving society Champions Club for GIRLS provided each senior with a gift bag filled with school supplies to aid them in their future endeavors.
“I have gained a lot from being a Boys & Girls Club member,” said Christine B., of the William M. and Betty E. Small Boys & Girls Club in Chamblee. “I participated in Keystone, Camp Kiwanis, Money Matters, and College & Career Readiness programs. Thanks to these programs, I could interview for a summer job and attend college fairs in the community. I have fond memories of the field trips we went on in the community, including receiving a much-needed pair of eyeglasses from one of the sponsors. What stood out to me was the kind and supportive staff who mentored me throughout the years and encouraged me to do my best.”
BGCMA Alumnus and Senior Director of Strategic Learning Brittany Dunn officially welcomed the graduating seniors into the BGCMA Alumni Association, where they can continue to receive support in their next phase of life.
“Throughout my time at BGCMA, I have had the privilege of participating in various programs and initiatives that have shaped me into the person I am today,” said 2023-2024 BGCMA Youth of the Year Jaden T., who plans to study political science at Howard University this fall. “From college preparation workshops to Camp Kiwanis and Keystone Leadership Club, every aspect of my involvement has been carefully designed to nurture my growth and equip me with the skills necessary to succeed in college and beyond.”
Morris Brown College President Dr. Kevin James delivered the keynote speech, inspiring the audience and surprising attendees by offering free admission to Morris Brown for all students present. His speech emphasized the students’ unlimited potential.
“We honored and celebrated 50 seniors for their tenacity, resilience, and vision for their future beyond our Blue Doors,” said Dr. Anna Jones, Director of College & Career Readiness.” They were recognized for scholarship awards and post-secondary plans for college, military, and the workforce. I am immensely proud to recognize their unlimited potential as masterpieces in the making.”
