BGCMA Encouraged by Slated Release of Critical Federal Afterschool Funding

BOYS & GIRLS CLUBS OF METRO ATLANTA (BGCMA) MEDIA STATMENT:

Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta (BGCMA) is encouraged by the U.S. Department of Education’s announcement that it will release $1.3 billion in 21st Century Community Learning Center (21st CCLC) funding on Monday, July 21, 2025. This decision brings much-needed relief and renewed hope to the communities we serve.

The news follows an unprecedented delay in funding that began June 30, when the U.S. Department of Education notified states that the annual distribution—traditionally released on July 1—would be postponed. The uncertainty placed immense strain on Boys & Girls Clubs nationwide and the families who depend on us.

For BGCMA, the potential loss of approximately $1.7 million in 21st CCLC funds would have directly impacted six of our 25 afterschool sites—disrupting services for more than 500 young people who depend on us for nutritious meals, supportive mentors, and safe spaces during the most crucial hours of the day.

Throughout this period, BGCMA has remained proactive and resilient—mobilizing funders, partners, and community supporters to prepare for all scenarios and ensure continuity of care for our youth.

This moment highlights the vital importance of long-term funding stability and ongoing advocacy. BGCMA calls for continued bipartisan support to ensure that essential resources reach communities swiftly and equitably.

Our mission remains unchanged: to ignite the unlimited potential of kids and teens across 25 Clubs in 9 Metro Atlanta counties. We are grateful for the steadfast support of our community and invite everyone to stand with us in championing our youth.
