Annual Youth of the Year Celebration Raises More Than $1.3M for Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta

Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta (BGCMA) is honored to announce Terrence L.P. of the Douglas County Boys & Girls Club as its 2024-2025 Youth of the Year. Terrence was selected among 19 accomplished teens representing Boys & Girls Clubs throughout Metro Atlanta and recognized at BGCMA’s Annual Youth of the Year Celebration on Friday, Nov. 8, 2024, at the Coca-Cola Roxy.

The “Legacy of Impact” themed program hosted by Emmy-winning journalist Monica Pearson also served as the organization’s signature fundraising event raising more than $1.3 million for Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta. It featured a live dance performance by the BGCMA League of Extradentary Talent, a performance ensemble of current Club members across Metro Atlanta; and a special appearance from Falcons Legend Matt Ryan along with several other community leaders serving as super judges. Most importantly, guests had the opportunity to hear inspiring speeches from the top five Youth of the Year finalists. In the culminating moment, Serigne B. of the A.W. “Tony” Matthews Boys & Girls Club was named runner up and Terrence was named Metro Atlanta’s Youth of the Year–the organization’s most prestigious honor!

“Representing the Douglas County Boys & Girls Club as Youth of the Year feels much bigger than me and what I once understood the world to be,” said Terrence. “It’s humbling to be recognized not only as a leader in the Club but also as someone who embodies the qualities needed to represent a place that has been transformative in my life and future. To me, being Youth of the Year symbolizes true leadership: someone who lifts others up when they are down, someone who sees challenges and not only promotes change but actively works to make it happen.”

Youth of the Year is part of the organization’s focus on character and leadership development. The yearlong program recognizes teen Club members who demonstrate exemplary academic achievement, leadership skills, and service to the community. Each year, one outstanding teen is named the organization’s Youth of the Year and serves as its youth spokesperson.

“We are incredibly proud of the young leaders who joined us for this year’s Youth of the Year celebration. From the moment the 19 candidates stepped onto the blue carpet, they displayed poise and confidence, a testament to their growth and determination. The top five finalists were exceptional, each one so well-prepared that any of them could have been Youth of the Year,” said BGCMA President & CEO David Jernigan. “We extend a special congratulations to our 2024-2025 Youth of the Year for Metro Atlanta Terrence Labonte Postell.  His wisdom, passion, and dedication to his community inspire us all, and we look forward to supporting him as he continues his journey to state, regionals and nationals.”

Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta thanks Bank of America for being the presenting sponsor of the Youth of the Year Celebration for the sixth consecutive year. BGCMA would also like to thank all corporate and individual sponsors for ensuring Clubs and staff can continue making a difference in the lives of kids and teens across Metro Atlanta.
