Camp Kiwanis’ Annual Volunteer and Play Day was a success! Our Leaders in Nature’s King (LINK) were joined by the Atlanta Kiwanis Club, students and teachers from Madison County Schools, Boys & Girls Clubs of Mero Atlanta (BGCMA) Board of Directors, Directors from Drapers and Mimms Club, Trail Team 6 from Athens, GA, and many LINK family members.
“Camp Kiwanis of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta is absolutely beautiful, loved and well cared for by the staff and campers. When you have 160 acres and around 20 buildings to care for though, it takes a village at times,” said Camp Director Carly Robinson. “We are very grateful to our village for showing up and doing the work we needed done.”
The village Robinson refers to showed up ready to both clean and play at Camp Kiwanis.
Volunteers helped stain cabin trim, porches, and a new flagpole area that was recently completed by Scout Troop’s 197. Volunteers also paint signs for crops in the garden. Although Camp Kiwanis loves bees, carpenter bees love wood buildings a bit more. So, volunteers did some wood repairs too. They also organized the shed.
To celebrate the hard work of the volunteers and show appreciation, Camp Kiwanis staff hosted a BBQ lunch. After lunch, volunteers had the chance to do mountain biking, canoeing, kayaking, and archery.
“We had big plans and fortunately for us, we had some AWESOME volunteers to show up and show out!” Robinson said.
