This year, I watched my youngest child Beau walk the stage at his college graduation and head into new adventures as an adult. I was reminded of a phrase a friend shared with me when I was younger, “The days are long, but the years are short.”
As a parent of two, this phrase always struck me as true, and as a surrogate mom to nearly 3,500 each day, it holds meaning too. I see our staff working so hard day in and day out to make an impact and how much it means to all of you that the kids in our Clubs reach their full potential.
It is grueling and tough work. We often see two steps forward and one step back. It is rewarding and important work. Our dividends come in smiles, college acceptances, and plans for the future. And it is truly life changing work. We could not do this without you and your support!
I’ve been with the Boys & Girls Clubs movement for more than 15 years now and I get to see the impact we are having every day. I see it in the smiling faces at our Clubs, in the little girl who learned to swim, in the young man who found his voice through poetry and the arts, and in the alumni who come back home to share stories from college and their careers.
Preparing for our annual report is one of my favorite times of year. Even though the years can fly by, it is chance to take a look at one year and how much we were able to accomplish. I’m proud to report that in 2015, because of you and your support, we have accomplished a lot.
As you read the stories and statistics in this annual report, please remember that the numbers are actual kids and the stories are their stories. You have made this possible by what you have done, and what I know you will continue to do!
Sincerely,
Missy Dugan
